Challenges 2009

"Due to the success of my transplant, and improving fitness, I continue with my fund raising expeditions"

~ Raise public awareness of kidney    related issues.
~ Increase the number of people on    the organ donation register.
~ Raise fund’s on behalf of Kidney    Research

"Four Peaks Cycle Challenge"

In May 2006 I cycled between each of the four highest mountains within the British Isles and climbed each peak, a distance of over 500 miles which took 3 weeks to complete. During this journey I visited renal and transplant units en route.

Everest North Col - 7066m

In May of this year I aim to climb to the North Col of Mount Everest.
This four week expedition begins in Lhasa, (Tibet) which at 3600m is one of the highest cities in the world. I will spend a few days here acclimatising. From Lhasa it is a four day drive to Base Camp 5200m (17’160ft). Time at Base camp will be spent trekking and climbing to the summits of some of the nearby peaks. Once adapted to the altitude of this lower camp I will trek to Advanced Base Camp 6400m, (21’120ft) where I will spend further time acclimatising, until I make the final ascent to the North Col 7066m (23’317ft)

Should I fulfil my final objective and reach the North Col of Mount Everest not only will it be an outstanding achievement, I will be the first organ transplant recipient to spend significant time above 4000m and the first to climb beyond 6400m.
